It is a brilliant idea and takes lot of courage to come up with something like this when the whole world is selling the run of the mill, brainless stuffs in the name of cinema.

What I liked the most- 1) The engaging background music 2) Camera work 3) The layers of the 2 main characters, especially Maya's. 4) The fact that the story made me think, which is very rare when you watch a movie these days.

What could have been better - Like few people pointed out it fell short on the technicalities-recording or the sound system. In few scenes, the music was overwhelming and took away the agony of the male lead rather than complementing his agony.

My 1st ever drama/ play happened to be “Chuski Natak ki” Mohan Rakesh’s Aadhe Adhure in hindi, conducted by Theatre on your own”.

Did they play with my mind?; oh yes especially with the dramatic story telling and shadow performance. The characters actually came home with me, the broken man Mahendra, the bread winner Savitri with her own way of keeping herself entertained.

Even the soft spoken elder daughter who had ran away with Manoj, kept me tuned in after she was back home (guess after a strained relationship).

The dramatic reading gave me a sense that the entire situation was played in a house which was in a state of mess.

What kept me captivated was, the scene between the mother, father, elder daughter and the jobless son Ashok. Initially I wasn’t sure why the character Savitri reacted the way she did even to their school going daughter, until Jagmohan exposed the dark side of her towards the end of the play. Throughout the play, the members of the family were in a never ending emotional turmoil.

The play was supported by good amount of set lighting, though at times the shadow performance confused me a little. I kept wondering if the blue and white curtain would be drawn anytime during the play :-), but they never did. Must admit that the background music (a true supporting role) played by Sham was great as it enhanced the points in the plot.

Overall, thank you members of 'Theatre of your own'; the play was worth watching for its good performances by you all.

We Shall Overcome -Understanding Learning Disabilities

A program for parents and teachers

Details:

Every parent remembers the day when their child first goes to school... a sense of pride, joy and anticipation, while the child steps into a new, wonderful world.

When some kids can't cope up with learning languages and in particular with reading and writing.

These children are instantly branded as careless, lacking interest/ concentration, slow learner.

In today's world of extensive competition the joy of learning turns into a night mare for these children.

It could be possible that these children are affected by Learning Disabilities (LD)

Nearly 3-5% of children suffer from LDs like Dyslexia and Dysgraphia... finding it difficult to cope with studies.

With support and timely intervention from parents and teachers, these children can do exceedingly well in life.

Our aim is to increase the awareness and sensitivity towards students suffering from LD.

With the help of our expert we will try to understand Learning Disabilities, so that we can identify it at the earliest and take remedial action.

Let us all work together and help these children rediscover the joys of learning.

TEASER ON VEDIC MATHEMATICS

Intended Audience Students from 5th grade onwards and Adults

Vedic Mathematics is not a separate branch of mathematics but is the routine Maths itself. Based on 16 main Vedic formulae, the mathematical problems can be solved mentally or in one-two steps whereas the routine/conventional method requires much more time. Vedic methods are time, space and energy saving methods.

A single problem can be solved in many Vedic methods each method is much simpler than conventional one. These methods are magical until you understand it and mathematics thereafter.

Shri Vishwanth Unkalkar would take you through some of these principles and make the arithmetic operations like addition, subtraction, multiplications, square, cube, square root, cube root, divisibility and several others look so easy and at the same time very interesting.

About Shri Vishwanth Unkalkar

After retiring from the services of The West Coast Paper Mills Ltd., Dandeli, as a Manager (R and D) Research Centre, Mr. Vishwanath Unkalkar spent most of his time in carrying out research and writing about Vedic Mathematics. He has profound knowledge about this subject and is an integral part of Vedic Mathematics forum - Kolkata, Shiksha Samkruti Uththan Nyas- New Delhi and Vidya Bharti schools in India.

He has actively participated in various national and international conferences on Vedic mathematics held at various parts of India and published, presented research papers on this subject.

Series of articles on Vedic Mathematics in Marathi and Kannada languages are published in local newspapers. He has conducted over 100 workshops and over 800 lectures on Vedic maths in various states of India as well as in various parts of USA.

He has been invited as a guest speaker in various companies like Aztek, Infosys, Satyam (now Tech Mahindra), Syntel etc. to spread the knowledge about Vedic mathematics which was highly appreciated by one and all.

He has written several books on Vedic mathematics in English and Marathi languages. One introductory book has been translated into Kannada language by Sakshi publication, Bangalore.

His books include:

In English

Introduction to Vedic mathematics - part I and II (No longer printed)

Magic squares by Vedic Method (No longer printed)

Carmel College, Bangalore for the students of these institutions, and in National Institute of Vedic sciences (NIVS, Chamrajpet, Bangalore) for those who are interested in learning Vedic Mathematics.

Recently, he has created a set of 2 DVDs comprising of 12 lectures of about 60 minutes each on various arithmetic operations and some algebraic operations. This DVD was released in Ahmedabad by the Governor of Gujarat on 26th November 2016.

Shri Unkalkar is the author of many books on Vedic Mathematics, of which Magical World of Mathematics is the most popular .

"How about bunking the next class and rushing to the cricket field and while you are at it, planting a bomb in the toilet?" Wait, what the hell am I asking you to do with deadlines to catch on!? But allow me to take you down the forgotten memory lanes and remind you of the times when...

You had a fit of breathlessness in front of your crush,

When FLAMES said marriage, you couldn't help but blush.

Blank calls played Morse codes,

Two meant - you missed her loads.

You were clumsy as shit, because her presence was sublime,

But after your break-up, crying became your favorite pastime.

You bunked the classes and said - 'Let the studies rot!'

But you never missed Kiran ma'am's class, 'coz she was pretty hot!;)

Cricket brought you glory,

And planting a bomb in school changed your story.

Life screwed you over and killed your spirit,

But you're glad that you anyway did it.

Told from the eyes of an Indian middle-class teenager, this story will make you wonder what you would have done if you were named Ghanshyam and were born a pessimistic nerd, while your optimistic best friend believed in unicorns and utopia! And to add to your woes, what if you fell in love with the most beautiful girl of your school? Wouldn't you then wait for a miracle to happen?

Well, what if that miracle happened?

About the author:

Being born in a middle class family has its own perks and limitations. The biggest perk is that one will be able to complete his engineering and MBA and the biggest limitation is that one will have to complete his engineering and MBA. Saurabh sharma, being a middle-class boy from Baroda, did his engineering from NIT, Allahabad and MBA from NMIMS, Mumbai. Currently an Associate Director at Flipkart, in his free time, he loves to write, play tennis and strum guitar. His debut novel is a tribute to some of the truly amazing friendships that he has developed over the years. His penchant for storytelling has led to his witty writing style, which has got rave reviews from across. He is currently staying in Bangalore with his wife and is giving finishing touches to his 2nd novel, which will be a sequel to Teenage diaries. Little Tots was born two years ago with Rinku and Pratibha. We believe that learning happens at an early age, even while having fun. Its a bright reminder that - "As story tellers" we are helping each girl and boy to listen, learn and grow.

Our Story tellers :

Rinku : Having worked as a Kindergarten teacher, she found her passion in working with little ones. Her lively, interactive performances spur children to think and be creative; which make them get up and move and have tons of fun!

Pratibha : a mother who lived in US for 10 years was participating in many music and gymnastics programs with her kids. CA, CPA by profession, found an opportunity to inculcate what she learnt in the programs she attended. She loves practicing her storytime ideas on her daughters, who is the source of much of her inspiration.

A Take On Life (ATOL) is a one-of-a-kind initiative in Bangalore. We host discussions on concepts related to life. Each discussion evolves into a melting pot of new ideas and perspectives, making it an enriching experience. ATOL believes in the power of personal stories and experiences as a medium to learn , unlearn and broaden ones perspective towards life . It is sometimes in another persons story or thought that we may find an answer to many of our lifes questions. The topic for this event, Take 6, is Building Connections. The discussion will focus on why and how we form connections with others, the need for it, why some work while others dont . Come, join in, experience diversity and have your take on Building Connections.

"Chuski Natak Ki" is an event conducted by our group, "Theatre On Your Own" which plans to read classic plays in a dramatic manner, discuss about the work of renowned playwrights, and also figure out the craft used in great plays. It all happens over a chuski of tea and some snacks.

We are revisiting Vijay Tendulkar's "Sakharam Binder", with a themed stage reading. We would love to play with the audiences minds in different forms, as the storytelling will be engaging and challenging at the same time.

The target audience for the event is everyone who appreciates theatre and literature and everyone, who like us, gets inspired by a good piece of art.

We give dedicated time to rehearse and plan the event. We target at least 1 event per month and make sure people who are part of the event ... go home with some artistic inspiration. It's all for the love of plays.

We have staged "Chuski Naatak ki " once every month starting from December 2015 at various location in Bangalore and got a very positive and appreciative response from the audience for our shows, which encourages us immensely.

About TOYO (Theater on Your own):

Art is never complete without Science.

Doing theatre following all the right processes was the first thought that holds the roots of the group which was formed in the early months of 2015. Founded by Sarbajeet Das , this groups core team consists of a mix of experienced and a bunch of new enthusiastic people who are always ready to explore new ways of bringing this art to todays critics.

As a group, we are very sure what we have to deliver every time we take up a project and we brainstorm a lot to make it different than what is already there, we love to play with our audiences mind. We love to make original piece of art, but always get inspired from classic literatures.

We have opened up the doors for all enthusiastic people who love to follow their passion in theatre and we do not judge them based on their experience. If someone is sincere this group will always help that person to grow and be self sufficient in theatre. We don't encourage working for free and love our cast and crew to the core. Profit or loss we pay our cast and crew, because without them we are nothing and their work needs respect.

We are very careful in our approach and are here to stay in the race of good theatre makers. We support all pieces of good art and have not set any boundaries for creativity for ourselves not in terms of language or any form of art.

We are here to take our passion to the next level and make it a profession good enough to earn not only bread and butter but some luxurious meals too.
