It is a brilliant idea and takes lot of courage to come up with something like this when the whole world is selling the run of the mill, brainless stuffs in the name of cinema.

What I liked the most- 1) The engaging background music 2) Camera work 3) The layers of the 2 main characters, especially Maya's. 4) The fact that the story made me think, which is very rare when you watch a movie these days.

What could have been better - Like few people pointed out it fell short on the technicalities-recording or the sound system. In few scenes, the music was overwhelming and took away the agony of the male lead rather than complementing his agony.

My 1st ever drama/ play happened to be “Chuski Natak ki” Mohan Rakesh’s Aadhe Adhure in hindi, conducted by Theatre on your own”.

Did they play with my mind?; oh yes especially with the dramatic story telling and shadow performance. The characters actually came home with me, the broken man Mahendra, the bread winner Savitri with her own way of keeping herself entertained.

Even the soft spoken elder daughter who had ran away with Manoj, kept me tuned in after she was back home (guess after a strained relationship).

The dramatic reading gave me a sense that the entire situation was played in a house which was in a state of mess.

What kept me captivated was, the scene between the mother, father, elder daughter and the jobless son Ashok. Initially I wasn’t sure why the character Savitri reacted the way she did even to their school going daughter, until Jagmohan exposed the dark side of her towards the end of the play. Throughout the play, the members of the family were in a never ending emotional turmoil.

The play was supported by good amount of set lighting, though at times the shadow performance confused me a little. I kept wondering if the blue and white curtain would be drawn anytime during the play :-), but they never did. Must admit that the background music (a true supporting role) played by Sham was great as it enhanced the points in the plot.

Overall, thank you members of 'Theatre of your own'; the play was worth watching for its good performances by you all.

Launch and reading of This Dog Barking
This Dog Barking:The Strange Story of U.G. Krishnamurti

Author: Nicolas C. Grey & James Farley

This Dog Barking chronicles the story of U.G. Krishnamurti, the Cosmic Naxalite, from his troubled childhood to his disillusionment with many of the leading spiritual teachers of the twentieth century and his catastrophic personal life. In 1967, UG underwent a series of biological mutations that left him in the natural state functioning without the interference of thought. With no fixed address, no followers and no organization, UG spent the next thirty years travelling the world with an uncompromising message: that mind is a myth and the human condition should be demystified and de-psychologized and viewed in purely physiological terms.

Candid and clear-eyed, this is a profoundly thought-provoking biography of one of the most radical philosophers of our age.

Author Bio:

Nicolas C. Grey grew up in Brighton on the southern coast of England and, having left both school and home at sixteen, is a self-taught artist. Working under the name Dead Nic in the 1990s, he was involved in the underground comix scene, producing the legendary Watermelon comic. Nic lives and works in Cambodia and is represented by Dana Langlois of JGallery, Phnom Penh.

James Farley was born in the UK, studied English literature at the University of Oxford and has been a childrens social worker for the past twenty-five years. As an unsuccessful writer, his previous works include a stage adaptation of The Radiance of the King by Camara Laye (never performed), Those Crazy Gurus (unpublished) and The Sand Pit, a novel about a drug-smuggling airhostess in a Saudi prison (unfinished). James lives with his wife and son in Scotland.
